The Residence

In the hills of Spetses, a stone villa among olive trees, with the sea below

In the quiet hills of Spetses, among pines and old olive trees, Villa Mou looks out over the Saronic Gulf, a few minutes from the island's harbour, town and beaches. It sleeps 10 in five bedrooms, around a private pool, a garden of olive and citrus trees and terraces that face the sea.

Lunch is laid on the stone terrace in blue and white, and at dusk the long table under the old olive tree is lit by a lantern on the garden wall.

The house is traditional Greek, in stone with blue shutters and bougainvillea climbing to the roof, and inside it is white and full of light, with timber beams, antiques and Greek craftwork. There are two living rooms with fireplaces and an open kitchen and dining room. Four of the bedrooms are doubles and one has twin beds; several open onto balconies over the garden or the sea, and there are five bathrooms and a guest cloakroom.

The garden holds three outdoor lounges, a barbecue, a shaded table for twelve and a yoga shala. A housekeeper comes every day and a cook prepares breakfast and lunch; dinner can be arranged. Hydra and Porto Heli are close by for a day out.
