The Mazzei family have been making wine in Tuscany for over six centuries, and when they discovered a beautiful piece of land in the hills near Noto — in the heartland of the Nero d'Avola grape — the result was Zisola: 50 hectares of vineyards, citrus orchards, olive groves, and almond groves arranged around three traditional Sicilian bagli, with the main house commanding sweeping views over the UNESCO Baroque town below. To stay at Zisola is to live inside a working estate of genuine distinction, where the wines made on the property are some of the finest expressions of southeastern Sicily's extraordinary terroir.
Six double bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom, accommodate up to 13 guests — with the cortile suite, the large annexe, and the first-floor master suite all spacious enough to accommodate children's cots on request. The estate's own produce supplies the kitchen, and daily housekeeping, weekly linen change, and breakfast are all included in every stay. The Vendicari Natural Reserve — a protected wildlife oasis with one of the most pristine beaches in all of Sicily — is minutes away, making Zisola as well placed for days of exploration as for long, sun-warmed afternoons in the vines.
Noto itself, the self-styled capital of Baroque, is moments away — its golden limestone corso, cathedral, and palazzi as theatrical and alive today as when they were built after the earthquake of 1693.
