Il Fienile di Montesoli

On a 300-hectare organic farm in the hills above Val d'Orcia, with Montalcino visible on the horizon and the rolling landscape of one of Italy's most celebrated UNESCO World Heritage valleys spread out below, Il Fienile di Montesoli is a recently renovated Tuscan hilltop estate of genuine character and calm. The name says it all — a converted hayloft, fienile in Italian, on the ancient hilltop of Montesoli — and the architecture delivers on every promise: rustic stone and timber bones, formal and considered furnishings, and an atmosphere that is warm, unhurried, and entirely authentic.
The villa accommodates up to 8 guests across beautifully appointed bedrooms, each with air-conditioning and served by four bathrooms, arranged across a spacious and thoughtfully designed interior that balances the grandeur of the original building with the comfort expected of a modern luxury rental. Outside, the pool offers long views over the Tuscan hills — the perfect place to do nothing in particular for hours at a time.
The surrounding region is as richly rewarding as the estate itself. The lively village of Buonconvento is just two miles away, with restaurants, shops, and a train station providing easy access to the wider area. Siena — one of Italy's great medieval cities — is 17 miles distant, and the celebrated La Bagnaia resort, with its golf course, spa, and fine dining, a mere 19 miles. Closer still are the wine estates of Montalcino, home to Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy's greatest reds, with horseback riding and trekking through the Val d'Orcia hills rounding out a stay of complete, sun-warmed immersion in Tuscany at its most beautiful.
