Italy Tuscany

Castello di Cabbiavoli, Castelfiorentino

The Castello di Cabbiavoli stands high on a hilltop between the Medieval towns of Montespertoli and Castelfiorentino in Tuscany's Chianti wine region. Below the hill an ancient and winding Volterrana road leads to Florence, Sienna and beyond; a smooth drive lined by sunflower fields and olive groves, vineyards and slopes of woodland. The castle or main building boasts a beautiful Baroque façade and is sided by a brick tower- which now serves as a romantic suite- and a 13th Century chapel where small wedding ceremonies have been performed for hundreds of years dating back to when the building of Cabbiavoli was begun in 1210.

In recent years the Castello has been completely restored and refurbished in great taste. The five bedrooms contained in the main house all have their own private bathrooms and views over the rolling landscape which changes dramatically with the four seasons and their respective harvests. The colour scheme adopted in the decor reflects that of the wall frescoes while different hunting scenes and trophies adorn the halls and living quarters. Fireplaces are present in some of the bedrooms and the downstairs drawing rooms. The dining room is large enough to comfortably fit twelve, but on certain summer evenings guests may prefer to be served on the outdoor terrace under the abnormally large bougainvillea plant after drinks on the roof terrace. Behind the chapel what was once a greenhouse now serves as a game room for adults and children alike, and a flight of stairs inside it leads to the roof, ideal for sunbathing and catching a 360 degree view spanning all the way to the high towers of San Gimignano. Alternatively, the private tower inside which a suite and African themed living room are located, also has its own rooftop sun terrace. Down below the house and the terrace is the swimming pool area which in turn leads to the cellar where wine tastings may be held alongside the ancient olive press.

Daily breakfast is served to you inside or out, whilst other meals will be prepared at your digression by the resident cook, Maria. A caretaker and host will also assist you with any other need you may have whilst staying at the property. Many exciting tours and activities are within a short driving distance from Cabbiavoli and almost anything can be organised for you through our services upon prior request.
